Decision made - price paid!

I have been considering options for my forthcoming 40th birthday for weeks now. This is not like me at all. Normally I know what I want, or where I want to go and I do some t'internet research make a decision - job done.

But not this time, this time I just could not decide; I wanted memorable and interesting but relaxing, sunny but not just a beach, new but not too long a flight...

~ My first plan was a combined beach and safari trip to Africa - it ticked every box, but there was a slight issue <cough> around increased kidnapping of Western tourists  in the area - p'raps not then, eh?
~ I considered Whale Watching and northern lights in Greenland - memorable, oh yes, but warm/sunny?? I think not.
~ I looked at New York - memorable of course, but again the temperature was an issue, and relaxing??? maybe not
~ Egypt - been there, done that. Lovely and warm but not new and also a few political troubles in Cairo... not this time.
~ Dubai / UAE appears to be a lot of very posh buildings in an otherwise pretty featureless desert where women should not drive and reporting a rape can land the victim in prison for adultery... that'll be a 'no' then.
~ Other part of the USA, road trips to take in the Grand Canyon amongst others, were all struck off for various reasons

Frankly I was getting bored with my own plans!!! Then I looked at Mexico.
Flight of 11 hours is stretching the boundaries for a week, but other than that - it is warm, check. it is new, check. it is beach, check. it is historically interesting, check. it has a 5 star Thomson Sensatori hotel, check in!!!!

Decision made, phew!

I priced it up on the web, then went to the Thomson shop in town and spoke to a lovely lady called Yve there - she did us a great deal on a better room for the same price and she'll email the hotel and tell them it's my birthday :-)
Because we were within 12 weeks of the holiday, we had to pay in full - ouch! - but I'm worth it!

¡Arriba!
